Primary Hyperparathyroidis

Abstract
The clinical features of the syndrome produced by functioning parathyroid tumor have been presented in several excellent publications and the pathological featuies of the tumor have been reported conclusively.
As the result of these studies, it is well recognized that functioning parathyroid tumor may cause crippling, possible lethal damage to the bones and kidneys. Surgical excision has proved to be the only effective treatment.
Since hyperprathyroidism with parathyroid adenoma is an interesting and rare disease, four cases which have been operated in this hospital(N.M.C.) during last 5 years(1958-1963) are to be presnted.
Three cases had renal lithiasis. In three cases osteoporosis or osteitis abrosa cystica generalisata were found by X-ray examination. The localization of the adenoma in four cases were at the inferior pole of the thyroid gland.
The preoperative serum calcium values increased than normal. In one case, it was dimcult to identify, at once, the tumor by frozen section examination during the operation.
